Shopper Local, LLC and its subsidiaries RTN (Register Tape Network) and Adcart are shell companies owned and operated by Eli Global, LLC. I am a former employee of both Adcart and RTN that worked in a sales and management capacity in both organizations. If you are considering working for or advertising with either RTN or Adcart this article is intended to give you my biased opinion of both of the products and the company.
Shopper Local, LLC is in the business of selling hyper local advertising. The advertising is delivered as placards on grocery carts through Adcart’s relationships with community grocery stores and as coupon receipt advertising via its RTN company primarily on the register tapes of Dollar General and Family Dollar.
I stopped working for the company because the company has a serious credibility problem in how they conduct business. The are unfair with advertisers and use very unethical sales tactics both of which I will discuss later in this post. First I will discuss how ineffective both forms of advertising are.
Ineffective Advertising Adcart:
The Adcart product as sold as mini billboards on shopping carts on the back of the child seat of the shopping cart. While on their website it shows they are in many different brands of grocery stores they primarily work in Southeastern Grocers branded stores, Winn Dixie, BI-LO and Harvey’s but also cover Ingles and Harris Teeter. Of the two products that Shopper Local sells this is probably the best one however that does not make it a good investment unless you are doing personal branding. This type of advertising is best suited for real estate agents and insurance agents that actually shop in the stores they are advertising in. That way you can start conversations while you are shopping in the store. Anything other than that it is a complete waste of money especially if you average profit per transaction is less than $500.00.
You cannot deliver an effective call to action on a shopping cart. People are not disposed to reach out and make a call about their roof, car, insurance or buying a home while they are looking for peanut butter and beverages. This medium only offers branding. If you are not after branding I suggest you move on.
The sales reps are free to make decisions on the cost to the advertiser. If you spend more than $100.00 per month you are overspending and are wasting money. It is very ineffective advertising.
RTN (Register Tape Network) Coupon Advertising:
If you will call the reference letters they present you with during their presentation you will find that the company that gave the letter is no longer advertising with them. The solicit these referral letters when they give customers free advertising as make goods. The customers never renew after the make good period. I personally have called on 100’s of past advertisers and got a zero renewal rate due to the fact they say they do not get coupons backs.
The only business types that see moderate success is buy one get ones in restaurants. As a business owner do you want people bringing in coupons for free meals on an ongoing basis? That is what you need to consider before advertising in this medium.
Who they target
They target new business and inexperienced professionals, because they know that these business owners do not have the experience to make informed decisions. They only go after getting a same day decision to apply undue pressure on these small business owners. They thrive off gullible people.
If you search for the company names you will find countless reviews and reports to sites like ripoffreport.com. The reason is the delivery by ShopperLocal is horrible and all of the customer services is managed in India. The managers do not make any decisions that will help the customer ever. They only consider their personal pay plan in any resolution.
Two times I have seen where managers would not let very small business owners out of contracts when they cancelled the same day.
Working for Shopper Local, LLC
If you search any job board for the company names you will find they have dozens if not hundreds of postings up for salespeople. If it was such a great position those positions would not be open. The day in the life of a rep is to get on the phone and make 75 to 100 calls per day begging people to come to their business to deliver a canned over scripted sales presentation. You are better off looking for another position.
On a side note:
If you have multiple arrest for drugs you can probably get a job with them. Their General Counsel, Anthony Palazzo, (in house attorney) has lost his law license multiple times after being arrested for cocaine possession yet he has been their mouthpiece for almost 4 years now. If your interactions with him are anything like mine. He will threaten you then turn tail and hide behind another man. Pretty much a coward in my personal opinion.
Anthony Palazzo’s record of arrest, evidence and any conviction was expunged. His record of disciplinary actions remain.
